Introducing Sad13, the New Musical Endeavor from Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz

We are pleased to be working with Sad13, the new solo project from Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz.

For these songs, she swapped the collaborative guitar-centric process of writing Speedy Ortiz songs for one in which she wrote, recorded and produced almost all of the music herself. Sadie set out to write substantive pop songs deeply focused on, ‘directness, self-determinism, and intimacy.’

Sad13 lands in an important medium between feminist punk luminaries and contemporary pop stars. In Dupuis’ words, ‘I wanted to make songs that were the opposite of ‘Genie in A Bottle’ or ‘The Boy Is Mine.’ Songs that put affirmative consent at the heart of the subject matter and emphasize friendship among women and try to deescalate the toxic jealousy and ownership that are often centered in romantic pop songs.’
