“There’s an immediacy to live performance that can be so difficult to capture in a recording. Much of Pelada’s appeal comes from the raw energy of their live show, and their recent self-titled debut EP, is a perfect distillation of that sound.” The words of Thump’s Michael Rancic are often used to describe Pelada. The duo has been leaving audiences awestruck in the wake of their intense live performances, constructed by the patchwork of sequenced analogue synths, drum machines and Chris Vargas’s politically evocative lyrics. In an era in which artists within the musical sphere struggle to answer the challenges of our society, Vargas’s words hold a striking simplicity, and they are a direct call to be conscious of the world around you.
Pelada began as an idea for an artist residency, but grew into something more. The band developed in Montreal’s infamous after-hours warehouse scene and has maintained the inclusive, open-minded ethos that scene has inspired. Within a year of inception, the band has toured throughout Europe and cut their first EP with producer Pierre Guerineau (Essaie Pas, Dirty Beaches, Marie Davidson), which was immediately embraced by the international electronic underground music community.
As of January 2017, the band is back in the studio recording their first full length, which is due out later this year.
Ground Control Touring is over-the-moon excited to add these artists to our family.
North and South American dates coming soon, but check out Pelada on their European tour in February 2017.
