A Ponytail show is full contact aerobics, it’s a hedonistic whirlwind for your ears and body. It is the exorcism your stiff loins have been waiting for.
When we first witnessed PONYTAIL live, it was impossible to restrain ourselves. Their music was total spastic bliss. A complete sugar high freak out. Smiles, dimples, and grins beamed from crowd to member, member to member, crowd to crowd. It was like kids on Christmas morning. Riding roller coasters. Triple dips.
Randomly put together in a class experiment, the four members of Baltimore’s PONYTAIL have stumbled into a magical combination that 99.9% of bands could never fake.
Testimonies of PONYTAIL’s live show:
“Ponytail is the sound of ecstasy: tall exclamation points of guitar, mad rambunctious percussion and wild-eyed ululations, an enormous blast of shocking pink bouncing off the walls and shooting up toward the sun. It’s absolute happiness, a drill boring straight down into the human id, recording everything it finds.” – EMUSIC
“(The band’s) at the stage of its career when every show is better, even though every show feels as if it couldn’t get better, and every show validates more and more the band’s peculiar and surprisingly accessible hybrid of surf-bent avant-rock and spontaneous, unformed vocal expression.” BALTIMORE CITY PAPER – PONYTAIL AWARDED “BEST BAND” FOR 2008 & “BEST LIVE BAND”, 2007
“The perfect tonic…the Baltimore quartet sidesteps that concern, by tapping straight into the primal power of the human voice, sans lyrical clutter. Molly Siegel is a mind-blowing vocalist…she and her band mates have created their own vocabulary of sounds, in which her cries and glottal attacks are just as vital, cuckoo, and inventive as the intertwined guitars of Dustin Wong and Ken Seeno.” THE STRANGER, SEATTLE
